How to adjust a backpack correctly

In music, the purity of notes and the beauty of a melody depend not only on the quality of the grand piano and the virtuosity of the pianist. This is, of course, important. But only a properly tuned instrument can prevent embarrassment, false notes, and the whistling of a disappointed audience.

Only a properly adjusted backpack allows you to enjoy all the benefits of comfortable use of the accessory.

No matter how hard the manufacturer tried, developing the most ergonomic designs: the final chord is yours. And now we will tell you how to make it sound in a major key!

How to make your backpack as comfortable as possible for yourself and why it is so important

If someone in the office rearranged the chairs after cleaning, you'd immediately feel it. The backrest tilt isn't right, the height isn't yours, your legs aren't comfortable... Most likely, you'd try every chair until you find the one where every curve and bulge is already adjusted to you.

This means that even completely identical office chairs can provide varying degrees of comfort depending on their settings.

4 steps to comfort: how to quickly and efficiently "tune" your backpack

In terms of its significance, this process resembles the facetting of a precious stone.

Step 1. Load the backpack. Only a filled accessory will fit snugly against your back and give you a true idea of how it will feel during daily use.

Step 2. Putting on a backpack correctly is also an art! Are you used to flinging it over your shoulders with a swing, wildly twisting your arms and fumbling for the straps? Or perhaps you even jump at the same time, as if performing a Tibetan shaman's dance? Surprisingly, this is a very common method. But it's incorrect. And sometimes—very traumatic. It's better to place the backpack on a table, windowsill, chair, etc., turn your back to it, slide your arms through the shoulder straps—and voilà! The backpack will immediately sit on your back "as it should."

Step 3. Adjust the straps. Tighten them one by one, pulling the loose end down and slightly back. They should be moderately loose, not slip, and not constrict your shoulders.

Step 4. Sternum strap (if present). When this "bonus" is provided in the model, never ignore it. Fasten the buckle and adjust the strap similarly to how you adjusted the shoulder straps. This simple strap plays a huge role in maintaining proper posture and creating comfort: it stabilizes the backpack, prevents quick fatigue and slippage of the straps, and helps distribute weight correctly.

How to adjust a backpack for a woman, man, child

Due to anatomical features, the center of gravity is distributed differently in women and men: in the former, it is closer to the abdomen, in the latter, it is in the chest area. This also needs to be considered when adjusting a backpack.

For women. Slightly loosen the straps so that the main part of the backpack is centered on the back.

For men. Tighten the straps so that the top of the backpack is 5-8 cm below the shoulders.

For children. The top edge of the backpack should reach the shoulder line, and the bottom edge should be 4 cm below the waist.

This is important! The weight of a filled backpack should not exceed 10% of the total body weight.

And most importantly! Listen to your feelings. We are all unique, with our own distinctive features. Ask your body: if it's comfortable, then you've done everything right.
